TONY KELLY
PILLS, POOLS & PLANES
February 23 – March 9, 2018
THE Art Angels Gallery is proud to present the debut fine art collection of celebrated Irish photographer Tony Kelly – Pills, Pools & Planes - on view from February 23 to March 9. Exploding with an individuality that commands attention, Tony Kelly’s art is truly one of a kind.
With his subversive humor and unforgettable use of color, Kelly has earned a global reputation as a true provocateur. “When you need color, irony and humor, he is the first name that comes to mind. Think big, think Tony Kelly!” – Marco Finazzi, Vanity Fair, Italy. His debut collection invites the voyeur to step into Kelly’s rarefied world of palm trees and perfection. Heavily influenced by the gloss and glamour of his home base of Los Angeles, this exclusive selection of limited edition prints provides wry commentary on our enduring obsessions with beauty, relationships, power and vanity.
Pills, Pools & Planes comprises a series of high-octane images that all at once arrest, amuse and entertain. Every image is iconic. The exhibition cements Kelly’s position as one of the most original and exciting photographers of our time and provides art collectors with a unique opportunity to own a piece of his work. Viewers are immediately seduced by glistening bodies and glittering backdrops with the saturated colors sun-soaked Los Angeles naturally provides. Tony Kelly’s irrepressibly quirky take on life brings a smile to your face and that’s his mission. His canny lens mirrors the artist himself. For Dublin-born Kelly is a veritable sunburst of humor.
“Los Angeles is a natural backdrop to the images I create,” says Kelly. “There’s not a day that passes that I don’t appreciate the beauty and energy of this city. It’s fitting that my first solo exhibition will be here. As Sinatra said, LA is my lady.”
The visceral reaction his work provokes is beyond description. Best experienced up close in all its technicolor splendor!
